Dinesh Priyantha wins Gold with a new Asian record

Three medals were added to the Sri Lankan medal tally today (11th) at the 3rd Asian Para Games that is currently being held in Indonesia. The Track and Field athletes were responsible for two of the medals while one medal came through wheel chair tennis. Sri Lanka has now won a total of 13 medals that consist of 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 4 Bronze medals.

Asian record for Dinesh Priyantha

Skipper of the Sri Lankan contingent to the 3rd Asian Para Games, Paralympic and World Para championship medalist Dinesh Priyantha won Sri Lanka’s 4h Gold medal in the Men’s Javelin throw F46 with a throw of 61.84m which is a new Asian record in the event. Gurjar Sindar Singh of India gave Dinesh a terrific fight for Gold but had to be satisfied with Silver coming short with a throw of 61.33m. Fellow Indian Rinku secured Bronze with a throw of 60.92m. It was a disappointing outing for the current world record holder in the event Devendra of India as he had to be satisfied with a fourth placed finish with a best throw of 59.17m.

Palitha wins Sri Lanka’s 5th Silver

Palitha Bandara won Sri Lanka’s fifth Silver medal with a throw of 13.21m in the Men’s Shot Put F42/61/63. Sajad Mohommadin of Iran won gold with a throw of 15.27m while Rikshimov Mukhammad of Uzbekistan was placed third with a throw of 13.12m.
