Lumbini College managed to win the first innings points against Mahinda College, Galle in their Singer Cup group B clash which ended today at Colts grounds.

Chasing a target of 174, Lumbini College resumed day two on 17 for one wicket. The boys from Havelock Town went on to make 191 in 65.1 overs. Left- handed Kanishka Maduwantha steadied the ship for the hosts scoring a vital 48 while skipper Thanuka Dabare and right handed Ravindu Sanjeewa accumulated 29 runs each with the bat.

All-rounder Kavindu Ediriweera bagged 3 wickets for 75 runs for the visitors but it was not enough as the home team passed the winning target. Young Sri Lanka U15 player, Navod Paranavithana was unbeaten on 33 as the rain interrupted play in the second innings when the visitors were 58 for 1 in 23 overs.

St. Aloysius’ College, Galle vs St. Servatius’ College, Matara

Sri Lanka U19 left-arm spinner Hareen Buddila produced yet another stellar bowling spell taking 7 for 26 and the U19 Youth vice-captain Ashen Bandara smashed a century for their alma mater, St. Aloysius’ College in their Singer-Cup traditional game against St.Servatius College, Matara which began today at Uyanwatta grounds.

The visiting skipper won the toss and invited the lads from Matara to bat in their home conditions, but they only lasted 31.5 overs scoring just 123 runs as the experienced youth left-arm spinner Hareen Buddhila was almost unplayable during his spell of 9.5 overs.

In reply, the Aloysians powered their way to 222 in 56 overs, thanks to a magnificent knock by right-handed Ashen Bandara who went on to score 126 for the visitors, while Buddila chipped in with 25 important runs. Left-arm spinner Shashika Dulshan picked up 3 wickets for the hosts.

With 99 runs behind in their second innings, St. Servatius’ College was 4 for none at stumps.

Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
