The fifth and the final day of the 33rd All Island School Games Athletic Championship was conducted today at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse Staium today (15th).
Aurna’s impressive 400m run
Quarter miler Aruna Dharshana of Weera Keppatipola National School Akuramboda won the Best Athlete(Boys) award for his remarkable time of 47.19 in the 400m. He also picked up the best sprinter award for his impeccable timing on a track that is in dire state coupled with rainy and soggy underfoot conditions.
Praboda’s jump wins her top awards 
Hashini Praboda of Holy Family Convent, Wennapuwa won the award for the Best Athlete (Girls) Award for her jump 13.22 in the Triple Jump. Proboda was also adjudged the best jumper of the meet for her performance.
Sheshan Best Hurdler of the competition
Josephian Sheshan Kariyawasam renewed hisown National schools record in the U18 110m Boys Hurdle event. Sheshan held the previous best time in the event with his performance of 13.96 at the Youth Commonwealth Games held in Bahamas earlier this year. It is an impressive feat by the youngster which won him the best hurdler accolade at the competition.
Maris Stella overcome Bens by a whisker
Maris Stella College, Negombo got the better of St. Benadict’s by 8 points to win the Senior Boy’s Championship accumulating a total of 105 points ahead of the boys from Kotahena who only managed a total tally of 97 points. Sir John Kothalawa M V, Kurunegala won the Junior Boy’s competition with a total of 37 points ahead of Royal College and St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennapuwa who were placed second and third respectively.
A Rathnayake College continue Girl’s domination
Walala A Rathnayake College continued their domination in the Girls Category as they ran away with a massive total of 187 points. They were leaps and bounds ahead of Sumana Balike Vid, Ratnapura and Gateway College, Colombo who only managed a total of 62 points to become joint runners up of the Senior Girls championship. Ave Maria Convent won the junior girls championship ahead of Sumana Balike Vid, Ratnapura with Janadipathi B V, Nawal securing the third place.
St Benedict’s & Walala Relay Champions
St Benedict’s College, consecutive winners of the All Island Schools Relay Championship for the past two years maintained their supremacy in the discipline of relay’s and clinched the Relay championship at the All Island School Games. Maris Stella College and Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya was joint second with Nalanda College Colombo coming in the third place.
Walala A Ratnayake College continued their undisputed domination in the Girl’s category convincingly winning the Relay Championship with a whooping total of 46 points with the second placed Sir John Kothalawala MV who gathered 22 points while Lyceum Wattala was placed third with a total of 18 points.
