St.Anthony’s College Kandy beat St.Joseph’s College Colombo by 2 wickets in the Singer U15 Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2017/18 quater-finals at the Lyceum Grounds at Wattala earlier this evening.

St. Joseph’s after winning the toss elected to bat first in this crucial quarter-final, hoping to put their opponents under pressure from the beginning. The young Eagles were able to break the Joes partnerships at regular events without giving them a chance to gather momentum. Joes on the other hand were able to build one good partnership  for the 5th wicket but the Antonians came back into the game breaking the partnership just 1 run short of 50 runs to a delivery bowled by Hasitha Wanninayake and after that there was only one good partnership of 34 runs for the 7th wicket.

Chasing a modest target to enter the semi-finals, the Antonians started their run chase perfectly with a opening partnership of 74 runs. After the break through of the 2nd wicket partnership, Antonians lost regular wickets and there were signs of a great come back by the Joes. For a moment Joes were leading the game, but Antonians were able to  come back strongly and chase the target within 49.5 overs.
