Angelo Mathews will not travel to Australia for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia later this month as confirmed in a communiqué issued by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

The squad will fly to Australia straight from South Africa after the completion of the current ODI series with some of the T20 specialists expected to join the official touring party when they arrive in Canberra on 13th February with the tour match against the Prime Minister’s XI scheduled to be played on 15th February.

The three international T20s will then be worked out on 17th, 19th and 22nd before the team is expected to fly back to Sri Lanka on 23rd February.

According to reliable sources, Dinesh Chandimal who skippered Sri Lanka in the final and third T20I is also expected to be rested from the Australian tour alongside Dhananjaya De Silva, Kusal Mendis and Suranga Lakmal.

Experienced fast-bowler Lasith Malinga is almost certain of returning to the national colours against the Australians having successfully recovered from a knee injury while the stand-in ODI captain Upul Tharanga might step in as the captain for the Australian tour.

The official squad will be announced on 7th February.
