Ananda wins Sivagurunathan Trophy

Ananda College demolished Jaffna Hindu College by an innings and 126 runs in their annual cricket encounter between the two schools played for the Sivagurunathan Trophy which was played at Ananda Mawatha on 25th and 26th of April.

Ananda batted first on day 1 after their skipper Thamalaka Athulathmudali won the toss. Ananda innings was propelled by a knock of 65 runs by right handed Nisal Fransisco and useful contributions were made by Lakkana Jayasekera (45) and Asel Sigera (35) as Ananda posted a formidable score of 254 for 8 before declaring their inning. G Mathusan was the most impressive bowler taking 3 scalps for Jaffna boys.

Jaffna Hindu College in their turn succumbed to some effective bowling by Anandian seam attack of Kavindu Anjula and Sandaken Pathirana who together shared seven wickets between them to bundle out the visitors for just 45 with R Ruksman top scoring with 24 runs.

Ananda College enforced the follow on to Jaffna Hindu College as they were in front with a lead of 209 runs. Jaffna Hindu College could not hold their ground due to some discipline and top level schools bowling as Ananda bowling unit succeeded for the second time as the visitors were bowled out for 83 runs in the 2nd innings. Sandaken Pathirana and Senal Korale took 3 wickets apiece while M Thuvakaran played a lone hand of 23 unbeaten runs.
