A 167 run for the fourth wicket between Malinga Amarasinghe and Avishka De Silva helped host Nalanda recover from 14 for 3 to reach an imposing 202 for the loss of six wickets in their U-19 cricket match against St. Peter’s College at Campbell Park today.

Batting first Nalanda were in for early trouble losing three quick wickets but Amarasinghe and De Silva renewed the innings with a fighting partnership. Amarasinghe made a brilliant 80 off 142 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes while De Silva made a painstaking 71 off 178 deliveries with five boundaries and a six to propel the score. But St. Peter’s came back strongly late in the day to break the threatening partnership. Sahan Nanayakkara had Amarasinghe caught while Janith Liyanage  bowled De Silva in the next over.

The umpires called off the match with 22 overs remaining due to bad light
