Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage yesterday warned the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka (AASL) and asked the officials to act in a more disciplined manner at a meeting held at the sports ministry premises.
The minister pointed out that even though the sports ministry spends nearly 15 million rupees for the development of athletics administrative weakness has left the sport high and dry.
The minister asked the officials to address their shortcomings.
The minister also said the media continuously highlight selection issues for international athletics events and the AASL should take full responsibility.
The sport ministry has spent close to two million rupees for the national athletics pool in the last few months which is way above the money spent for other sports. Yet the minister claimed athletics officials had worked according to their whims and fancies rather than aiming to win international medals.
