Dane van Niekerk’s 4 wickets and 22 runs helped set up easy win for South Africa Women, level the series 1-all with one T20 international to be played.

Winning the toss and batting Sri Lanka Women got off to a moderate start as they scored 24 runs for the first wicket partnership. Yasoda Mendis was the first to be dismissed for Sri Lanka as she was caught by Trisha Chetty off the bowling of Chloe Tryon. Yasoda Mendis scored a quick fire 21 off 13 balls including 5 fours.

Sri Lanka Women never managed to kick start their innings as South Africa made crucial break throughs at regular intervals as they managed to peg Sri Lanka back constantly. Chamari Atapattu managed a hard fought 16 runs off 14 balls. Chamari Atapattu was the 4th wicket to fall as Sri Lanka Women were toiling at 44 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Sri Lanka Women were all out in the 14th over of the game for only 76 runs. Eshani Kaushalya was the only other batswomen to reach double figures alongside Chamari Atapattu and Yasoda Mendis.

Trisha Chetty went early in the chase but the following partnership of 38 between Dane van Niekerk and Lizelle Lee steadied the South Africa ship early in the game. Maduri Samuddika struck twice in the same over (11th over) to dismiss Dane van Niekerk and Lizelle Lee but it was all too little too late as South Africa cruised to victory in the 18th over of the game and made it 1-1 going into the third and final women’s T20 international.

The next game (3rd t20) will be played tomorrow (Oct 26) at the MCA ground. The game is scheduled to begin at 2pm local time.
