The All Island School Games – Swimming Championships 2022, organized by the Ministry of Education, concluded their 3-day meet today evening at Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex. The Championship was held at two levels – a Provincial level followed by the All-island level, where the top 3 winners of each province competed.

Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and St. Peter’s College, Colombo of the Western Province won the overall Championships with totals of 76 and 92 points respectively. The Peterites, showing their domination at the Western Province Championships, yet again proved their domination at the All-Island level for their 2nd consecutive win in the same championships after 2019. The Visakhians had a drawback at the Western Province Championships, finishing runners-up to Ladies College. However, they struck back to win the All-Island Overall Championships. So far, this is the 7th Swimming Champions title won by Visakha this year. St. Peter’s College and Visakha Vidyalaya both achieved these achievements under the guidance of Head Coach Shehaan Dias. Lyceum International School, Wattala won the Runners-up in the Girl’s category, and St. Joseph’s College in the Boy’s category.

Additionally, 27 New Game Records were established at the Championships. Ganga Senevirathne of Visakha Vidyalaya won the Best Player title in the Girl’s category for her performance in 50m Backstroke – 31.60 seconds (622 FINA points), and Kaveesha Gimahana of Ananda College became Best Player in the Boy’s category for his performance in 50m Butterfly – 25.93 seconds, (633 FINA points) respectively.
