Taking up a new assignment and marking his return to the Club Rugby League after a lapse of two years, coach Nilfer Ibrahim is satisfied with the performance of the Army side as they finish third at the end of the 1st round.

Acclaimed to be one of the most successful coaches in the present times in the school’s format, the position of coach in the Army Sports Club side was a new challenge for the former Kingswoodian.

Expressing his views after the final game of the 1st round which was the clash against Air Force SC, Ibrahim added that they came with a mindset to win with a bonus point and they did so after a hard-fought battle in the second half.

The Soldiers had the privilege of emerging in the top three positions on the points table only during the 2014/15 season when they had contracted players and overseas talent. Since then, Army has opted to build on their own and have done a commendable job in getting new talent as well as identifying the potential officers.

This year’s team was the surprise package in the league stirring a few notable upsets. Despite losing their opener to Navy, the soldiers came out strong against CH & FC to come from behind and win. The game that put Army on the headlines was the encounter against CR & FC when they defeated the red shirts in their home ground 24-10.

Army concluded their first round run with a finish at 3rd place on the points table ahead of Navy, CH & FC and CR & FC. As coach Ibrahim predicts, “Army will surely be the force to watch out in the second round”.
