ACBT and IIHE record wins on the opening day

156

The Sri Lankan leg of the Red Bull Campus Cricket 2015 kicked off today with ACBT taking on CINEC in the 1st game at the Thurstan College Grounds in Colombo this morning.

CINEC campus won the toss and elected to field first and it paid off as they had ACBT struggling with 4 early wickets. A resolute fighting knock by the skipper, Sahan Amarasinghe helped ACBT reach 151 in their allotted 20 overs. Right-handed Sahan made an unbeaten 51 and he got good support from Shavin Philicocq who made a quick-fire 23. CINEC bowlers were disciplined right throughout with Janath De Soysa(4/26) and Udayanga Gunawardana(3/20) being the stand out performers.

In reply, CINEC never got going as they were bundled out for a mere 94 runs with the right-arm off-spinners, Hashindra Perera(3/11) and Sahan Amarasinghe(2/16) doing bulk of the damage for ACBT as they recorded a convincing 57 run win to get their campaign off to a victorious start.

In the 2nd game of the day at the same venue, IIHE beat APIIT by 13 runs on Duckworth/Lewis (D/L) method to earn their first win of the tournament.

Taking the first lease of the wicket, IIHE was restricted to 137/8 in their 20 overs with left-handed Saveen Cyril making a top score of 47. In reply, APIIT were 76/8 when bad light halted play with the D/L par score being 89 at that point, IIHE was awarded winners. Praveen Jayathilake impressed with figures of 3/12 for IIHE campus.
