A total of 164 events will be conducted at the 41st Annual Schools Age Group swimming championship to be held from June 26 to 29 at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex. This championship has attracted 76 boys schools, 44 girls schools and 33 mixed schools for a total of 1602 male swimmers and 1004 female swimmers.

There will also be 24 relay events to be conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association (SLSASA) for the 41st time with the support of Nestle Lanka Limited under the brand name of Milo.

Nestle is supporting this event for the past 20 years and over without a break. Without their support swimming in the schools would have died a natural death and Sri Lanka will not be having quality national swimmers.

Malka Jayasinghe, Secretary of the SLSASA said that they do not get any support from the Ministry of Sports to continue swimming at schools. They do not have any coaches, pools to practice on and other facilities but individual school children go about their swimming on their own perseverance.

The age categories to be conducted are the under-9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 for boys and girls.

Medals will also be awarded to the first three placed swimmers while certificates will be awarded to those who reach the qualified time in the below 13 age groups.

Certificates will be awarded to the first eight placed swimmer in the above-13 age category.
