Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has reached new heights with career-high ratings in all three categories on the latest update to the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings.
Athapaththu played a starring role in Sri Lanka’s impressive nine-wicket triumph over the UAE in Dubai at the Asia Cup, with the 36-year-old picking up a key wicket with the ball and then contributing an unbeaten 48 as the side commenced their title defence in style.
It means Athapaththu now has career-best ratings in all three rankings categories in T20I cricket, with the Sri Lanka skipper sixth overall for T20I batters, 33rd for T20I bowlers (she gained three places this week) and third for T20I all-rounders.
Athapaththu’s latest efforts come on the back of a strong campaign for Sri Lanka at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the middle of the year where the all-rounder scored 172 runs and collected three wickets for her side.
There was further joy for Sri Lanka on the latest update to the rankings, with Imesha Dulani (up four places to 18th) and teammate Harshita Samarawickrama (up one slot to 23rd) both making ground on the list for T20I batters.
Sri Lanka spinner Sugandika Kumari also makes gains, with the left-armer rising five places to 23rd for T20I bowlers as Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akter improves two slots to jump to 37th on the back of her two-wicket haul against Indonesia.
