Sri Lanka Domestic Cricket transfer window ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 season has produced a wave of significant player movements involving national stars, experienced domestic performers, and promising youth talent. With several leading clubs strengthening their squads across all formats, the new season is expected to be one of the most competitive in recent years.
The most high-profile transfer sees Wanindu Hasaranga move from Colombo Cricket Club to Colts Cricket Club. Sri Lanka’s premier all-rounder spent a significant part of his domestic career at CCC, where he developed into one of the world’s leading white-ball performers. His switch to Colts marks a major shift in the domestic landscape and significantly boosts their title ambitions.
Another key signing sees Maheesh Theekshana joining Nondescripts Cricket Club after Sri Lanka Army granting NOC for him to play at NCC. One of the country’s most effective white-ball bowlers, Theekshana brings international experience and mystery spin, strengthening NCC’s already competitive bowling attack.
Sinhalese Sports Club have also made strong additions to their squad. Dunith Wellalage arrives from Colts Cricket Club, while Ron Chandraguptha joins from Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club. Wicketkeeper-batter Vishad Randika also makes the move from Police Sports Club to SSC, adding further depth to an already experienced lineup.
One of the most talked-about batting moves sees Bhanuka Rajapaksa switch from Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club to Police Sports Club. Known for his explosive stroke play and ability to change games quickly, Bhanuka is expected to be a major asset for Police SC across formats.
Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club have been one of the busiest clubs this window. While losing Bhanuka Rajapaksa, they have strengthened significantly with the arrivals of Lasith Embuldeniya from Nondescripts Cricket Club, Binura Fernando from Ragama Cricket Club, and Thanuka Dabare from Chilaw Marians Cricket Club. These additions provide Tamil Union with a well-balanced squad combining pace, spin, and batting strength.
Colombo Cricket Club have responded to the departure of Hasaranga by signing Ashen Bandara from Police Sports Club. His international experience and consistency in domestic cricket make him an important addition to CCC’s batting unit.
Elsewhere, Ravindu Rashantha has moved from Colts Cricket Club to Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, while Duvindu Tillakaratne, son of 1996 World Cup winner Hashan Tillakaratne, has joined Moors Sports Club from Bloomfield.
The transfer window has also highlighted the continued investment in youth development. Sri Lanka U19 player Vigneshwaran Akash has joined Burgher Recreation Club, while Kugathas Mathulan has linked up with Nondescripts Cricket Club. Another U19 player, Senuja Wekunagoda, has joined Badureliya Sports Club ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, U19 player Chamika Heenatigala has moved to Ace Capital Cricket Club after previously representing Burgher Recreation Club. Youngster Kavija Gamage will continue at Colts Cricket Club following his U23 stint, while Dulnith Sigera remains with Colombo Cricket Club.
Sri Lanka U19 captain Vimath Dinsara will also continue with Panadura Sports Club, as clubs continue to focus on nurturing the next generation of talent.
With several international stars switching teams and a strong influx of young players entering the system, the upcoming Sri Lanka domestic cricket season promises to be one of the most competitive in recent memory.
The season will officially get underway with the SLC Major Club T20 Tournament 2026, starting on 13th May, setting the stage for an exciting year of domestic cricket in Sri Lanka.
