The 3-day-long HNB Novices Age Group Swimming Championships 2026, organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, concluded last Saturday at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex. This event was an opportunity for heaps of swimmers to advance their Swimming careers for the upcoming competitions.
The Novices’ Swimming Competition lays the groundwork for a swimmer, which is also the qualifier meet for the rest of the competitions in the SLASU calendar. Once the novice swimmer reaches the required qualification time, they will be promoted to compete at the Intermediate level or the National Age Group level accordingly.
This year, the Novices had 690 female and 1190 male participants from 161 schools and clubs across the island, competing against each other under 6 age categories varying from Under 11 to Open.
Out of them, Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalya – Kiribathgoda, and St. John’s College – Nugegoda, gained more honours, finishing overall Girls’ and Boys’ champions respectively, while S. N. S. Swimming Galle and Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda finished as Runners-Up.
The event was sponsored by Hatton National Bank as the title sponsor, and Swim America & Killer Whale Aquatics as the silver sponsor.
The next event in the aquatic calendar will be the Open Water Swimming Championships at Port City this weekend!
