Nimali Perera makes history as first Sri Lankan female official in men’s international match

In a landmark moment for Sri Lankan cricket, Nimali Perera has become the first Sri Lankan female official to oversee a men’s international match. 

Perera served as the third umpire for the first T20I between Sri Lanka and England at Pallekele, breaking new ground in the traditionally male-dominated arena of international cricket officiating. 

Perera brings with her a wealth of experience in international women’s cricket. She has officiated as an umpire in 22 Women’s ODIs and 58 Women’s T20Is, underlining her credentials at the highest level of the game. 

Further enhancing her profile, Nimali Perera also served as an umpire in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, showcasing the trust placed in her by the International Cricket Council for major global events
