The 16th Battle of the Golds between Mahanama College and D.S. Senanayake College commenced today (22nd April), at P. Sara Oval Grounds, Colombo.
After been put into bat first, Mahanama College posted 282/6 before declaring their innings. Sachira Weliwatta was the top-scorer for Mahanama College as he stroked 89 runs off 143 balls with 7 fours and a six.
In reply, D.S. Senanayake College could bat only 2 overs for the day as bad light brought early stumps on day one.
Meanwhile, three traditional encounters were played today at Pannipitiya and Colombo. The traditional encounter between Nalanda College and Dharmapala College ended in a draw, with the former taking the honors.

Sineth Jayawardena’s brilliant century lit up the traditional encounter between Royal College and St. Benedict’s College which began today at Royal College Grounds. Hirun Matheesha Kapurubandara (64*), Hiran Jayasundara (61) and Muditha Lakshan (59) stroked half-centuries, putting St. Joseph’s College in a respectable position on day one against Ananda College in their traditional encounter at Ananda College Grounds.
