Week 08 of the 70th Anniversary Colombo Hockey League 2025 concluded with some action-packed games over the weekend. In the Division A encounters, the Old Nalandians Hockey Club bulldozed the Red Shirts of CR & FC in ruthless fashion to produce the highlight of the week.
CH & FC (Gymkhana) vs BRC
The much-anticipated Division A clash saw the CH & FC stickmen take on the formidable BRC outfit. Despite plenty of action, the first quarter ended without a score. Menula broke the deadlock for CH with the opening goal, but the lead was short-lived as BRC struck back with back-to-back goals from Lahiru and Dhananjaya.

BRC held on to their lead until the dying minutes, but right before the final whistle, Menula netted his second to secure a dramatic equalizer and a share of the points for CH.

Old Nalandians Sports Club vs CR & FC
Old Nalandians Sports Club steamrolled the fancied CR & FC side with a commanding five-goal margin. They opened the scoring early and maintained a 1–0 lead until the 40th minute, when Chinthana struck twice in quick succession.
In the final quarter, the winners added two more goals to post a dominant 5–0 victory.

CR & FC vs Old Zahira Hockey Club
In this clash, Old Zahira took the lead in the first quarter through Arshad and maintained a 1–0 advantage at halftime. The third quarter, however, turned the game on its head as CR & FC stormed back with four goals to move ahead 4–2.
The Zahirians refused to give in and struck twice in the final quarter to level the game. After a thrilling contest, the match ended in a 4–4 draw.

Women’s Division Encounters
The women’s matches showcased determination, but most turned into one-sided affairs.
In the opening fixture, the experienced CR & FC side demolished the University of Moratuwa with a mammoth 10–0 victory. Malami was the star of the show, netting an incredible five goals.

In another encounter, title contenders BRC overwhelmed Nomads Hockey Club with a 9–0 triumph in a goal fest.

The final women’s fixture saw CR & FC outclass Colombo Colts Cricket Club with a comfortable 3–0 win. Reliable striker Malmi struck twice, sealing another strong performance for the Red Shirts.

Further Visakha Vidyalaya Hockey Club sealed a dominant victory over the Moratuwa University ladies’ side. Visakhians managed to score five goals, while Vinuri and Lihini had a couple each.
