Colombo Hockey League 2025 – Week Six Recap: Thrilling Matches and Standout Performances

The proceedings of Week Six of the Colombo Hockey League 2025 Andriez Shield – Men’s Division A, Division B, Division C League Tournament and Women’s League Tournament concluded last weekend (5th and 6th June) at the Astro Turf, Colombo 07.

Royal College Hockey Club vs BRC (Men’s Division A)

In the only Division A game of the weekend, the Indian-Pakistan union force of Royal College Hockey Club managed to defeat the league leaders, BRC, in a thrilling encounter.

In the very first minute of the game, Waseem, the standout player from the Pakistan national team, scored a goal. He doubled his tally later in the first quarter.

(1st Quarter: Royal 2 – 0 BRC)

The second quarter went scoreless, and at halftime, Royal College enjoyed a comfortable 2 – 0 lead.

(2nd Quarter: Royal 2 – 0 BRC)

In the third quarter, Abeetha—who scored a hat-trick against Old Zahira Hockey Club the previous weekend—found the back of the net for BRC.

(3rd Quarter: Royal 2 – 1 BRC)

The final quarter set the stage for a nail-biting finish, and the game lived up to expectations. After an action-packed early phase, Asitha managed to equalize for BRC. In the final eight minutes, both sides battled fiercely to find the winning goal, and it was the Royalists who had the last laugh, as Indian player Harshdeep scored the final goal of the match.

Despite their first loss, the BRC outfit remains at the top of the Men’s Division A points table, with CH & FC Club and Royal College Hockey Club trailing closely behind.

Women’s League

In the women’s league, the Young Ladies Hockey Club edged out the BRC Ladies with a narrow 1 – 0 victory. With this crucial win, the Young Ladies retained the top spot on the points table, boasting three wins and one loss.

Division B

Old Joes Sports Club continues to dominate proceedings in Division B. Meanwhile, Colombo Colts and Old Wesleyites are locked in a close battle for second place.

Division C

In Division C, the unbeaten Old Isipathana side leads Group A. In Group B, CH & FC and Old Peterite SC are in a tight race for the top, both sitting on equal points.

The highlight of the weekend was a stunning seven-goal performance by Gihan of Old Isipathana Hockey Club against Old Asokians Hockey Club (Division C). Additionally, Jeromi from Old Joes Sports Club netted a hat-trick to overpower Old Wesleyites Sports Club in their Division B match.
