The proceedings of Week Five of the Andriez Shield – Men’s Division A League Tournament concluded last weekend (5th and 6th June) at the Astro Turf, Colombo 07.
Old Zahira HC vs Old President’s HC
The first Division A game saw Old Zahira HC face Old President’s HC in a high-scoring affair. Madhi and Supun gave the Old Zahirians an early lead within the first 10 minutes, putting Old President’s on the back foot. In the second quarter, the Zahirians extended their dominance with two more goals.
Early in the third quarter, Ifras made it 5-0, but Old President’s pulled one back with a counter-attacking goal. In the final quarter, Old Zahira sealed the win with two additional goals, delivering a commanding performance. With this thumping victory, the Old Zahirians sent a clear message—they’re not just here to compete, but to conquer.

Old Nalandians HC vs Old Senanayakians’ SC
A tense but tactical contest unfolded between these two sides. Budaraka struck early for the Maroon and Silver brigade. On the brink of halftime, Bodhika doubled the lead, giving Old Nalandians a 2-0 advantage. Old Senanayakians struck back early in the third quarter to make it a game, but the Old Nalandians held their nerve to edge out their Colombo rivals.

Royal College HC vs CH & FC
In one of the weekend’s highlights, the lads from Maitland Crescent—built on homegrown grit—took on the mighty Royalists, who boasted a solid blend of local and international talent. The first half remained goalless, but Menula from CH & FC finally broke the deadlock.
Royal quickly responded through Waseem, a standout from the Pakistan national team. CH then countered with a superb goal from Damith. In the final quarter, Indian star Harshdeep equalized for Royal. The final 13 minutes saw no goals, but this clash of titans had fans on the edge of their seats.

BRC vs CR & FC
Another epic encounter saw the formidable BRC face the resilient CR & FC. BRC took a 2-0 lead early in the third quarter through clinical finishes. However, Mario gave CR a lifeline with a brilliant goal in the final quarter. Despite intense pressure in the closing stages, BRC held on to secure a narrow victory in a game that lived up to its blockbuster billing.

CH & FC vs Old President’s HC
This match was one-way traffic at the Astro Turf, as CH & FC dismantled Old President’s HC with an emphatic 11–1 victory. Udesh starred for Maitland Crescent, delivering a sensational four-goal performance. Randunu added a brace, while five other players scored one each in a goal fest. Anjana scored the lone consolation for Old President’s.

BRC vs Old Zahira HC
The final Division A battle of the weekend delivered fireworks. Old Zahira struck first through their star striker Azeez, but Abeetha equalized within a minute. Abeetha then went on to complete a hat-trick, supported by a goal from Dhananjaya, putting BRC firmly in control at 4–1.
Refusing to back down, Azeez struck twice more to bring the Zahirians back into the contest. While they pressed for an equalizer, BRC’s Lahiru scored in the dying moments, sealing a thrilling 5–3 win.
