Defending a title for two decades—some might say it’s impossible. But for St. Joseph’s College, Maradana, it looked like a walk in the park. At the recently concluded 50th MILO All Island Schools Age Group Aquatic Championship, the Joes delivered yet another outstanding performance to secure the Boys’ Overall Championship with 562 points—marking their 20th consecutive title. The tournament was held at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Complex from June 17 to 22, 2025.
In the same category, Ananda College, Colombo (268 points) and Lyceum International School, Wattala (238.50 points) emerged as the 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively—but they were far behind the champions in terms of points.
The mermaids from Ladies’ College put on a stellar performance to clinch the Girls’ Overall Championship with 349 points, maintaining their winning momentum from last year. Lyceum International School, Wattala (280 points) and Musaeus College (264 points) secured second and third places, respectively.
In the Mixed Schools Championship, Lyceum International School, Wattala asserted their dominance for the fifth consecutive year, amassing 349 points. Their sister schools—Lyceum International School, Gampaha (311.50 points) and Lyceum International School, Nugegoda (197 points)—claimed the 1st and 2nd runners-up spots, respectively.
A total of 15 meet records were broken during the championship—an encouraging sign that the future of Sri Lankan aquatics is in safe hands. In total, 3,010 boys and 2,088 girls participated in this prestigious school meet.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, graced the presentation ceremony as the chief guest. Also present were the President of the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association, Maduka Dasaman Fernando, along with other distinguished guests.
