One of the country’s premier sporting powerhouses, Havelock Sports Club, has re-elected its former player Rajiv Perera as President to lead the club for another year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place at the Park Club Clubhouse over the past weekend
A well-known sporting figure, Rajiv Perera is a former President of the D.S. Senanayake College Old Boys’ Union and the Charter President of the Old Senanayakian Sports Club. He succeeded Thusitha Pieris in 2023 and has held the office for the past two years.

Former Peterites Anuja Premaratne and Sri Lanka Outside Centre Graham Raux were also re-elected as Vice Presidents. In addition, former Thomian Nirupan Wijeratne was elected General Secretary, while Mr. Nimal De Silva assumed duties as the Honorary Treasurer.
Havelock Sports Club’s history dates back to 1915, when Roy Joachim founded the Colombo 5-based club. Since then, it has built a rich sporting tradition. However, in recent years, the Havelock SC rugby team has not secured any major titles. The club, which has won the Clifford Cup 14 times, last tasted success in 2019 in the absence of League winners Kandy SC. Their last Dialog League Rugby Championship victory came in 2012.

Under the previous president, an initiative was launched to re-establish Havelock Sports Club as the “People’s Club” by boosting its popularity. The vision was to become the island’s number one family rugby club, offering entertainment and inclusivity for every member of the family.
