Day two of the 62nd Battle of the Brothers ended with the game finely poised, giving both teams a chance to push for victory on the third and final day.
Thurstan openers walked in to bat with the overnight score at 23 for no loss. Tanuja Rajapaksha and Dinal Induwara were straight into attacking mode just like the previous evening. Rajapaksha and Induwara put on a 50-run partnership inside just 15 overs.
However, with the fall of Rajapaksha’s wicket, Thurstan’s momentum slowed, and they began losing wickets at regular intervals. At one point, they found themselves struggling at 123 for 6. It was then that Pathum Dananjaya and Janith Rukshan built a crucial, innings-saving partnership.
Rukshan went on to score a brilliant unbeaten 72 off 144 deliveries, pulling Thurstan out of deep trouble. Dananjaya, on the other hand, played a steady supporting role, contributing a mature 42 off 92 deliveries.
Thurstan College went on to post 257 when they declared the innings with a tiny lead of 54 runs. The star for Isipathana with the ball was Menula Sadev with his 5 wickets. Mohamed Asjedh also picked up 3 important wickets for Isipathana.
