2013 edition of ANC sports day and carnival comes to an end with high key festivity, at the Havelock Sports Complex.

After months of preparation on inter house sporting activities, the sports finale marked the end of the athletic season. ANC as an equal endorser of studies and extracurricular activities, hosts a series of rugby, cricket, basketball and football sporting events annually. The students are separated into four houses: Bradman, Pele, Jordan and Ali. Points are awarded to each house based on the achievements in each sport. The winners of the sports day are selected on the day of the sports finale totalling up scores of previous sports events with athletics which take place on the day of the event.

The house decorations that took place the day before. Utilizing the opportunity were the students who did not take part in the sports but were eager to contribute to their respective houses. The winners of the competition, Pele house almost had the setup figured out days before. They put a lot of effort into with staying back the whole night before in bringing the decorations to a smooth finish.

American National College also shared the sports celebrations with fellow universities. The invited relay event was specially organized with the participation of many fellow universities. Yet, ANC was able to secure the victory, while NSBM and APIIT settled for 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

“We at ANC believe taking part in student activates brings the whole university together.  Compared to other student events that focus on specific talents of a selected set of students – for an example the fashion show which took place very recently – the sports day is for all the students to enjoy in whatever they are skilled at; creative people decorate, music lovers DJ, dancers cheer up the space, the upcoming comperes can fine tune their annoying skills, and of course regardless of what sport you are good at it’s an opportunity for you to show case your capacities. Well if you really are an exception who doesn’t fall into any of the above categories you might at least enjoy the water slider,” remarked, Assistant General Manager of Student Affairs Office at ANC Education, Aruni Mahipala.

The 2013 sports day took the atmosphere of a carnival; while the athletes were battling to bring the victory to their house, the participants also were involved in entertaining activities. From tug of war for the faculty and students to water slides to popular dances everyone had their entertaining trust fulfilled. Most of all a picture with the cricketing star – Muttaih Muralidaran ticked one off the bucket list of many students.

As the day came to an end, walking away were the tired but proud students who were just recognized for talents. Away from the usual routine this shift was an exuberant experience for every undergraduate.
