The 45th National Age Group comes alive on the 22nd August at the Sugathadasa Pool, this time with a lot riding ahead of the Asian Age Group Swimming Championship 2019.

36 Swimmers drafted for South Asian Games

A pool of 36 swimmers have been drafted by the Sri Lanka Aquatic..

Keeping with tradition, the meet will feature 5 age categories starting from the Under 11 all the way to the 18 and over. The tournament will be conducted over 4 days from the 22nd -25th August at the Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Complex.

176 heats and finals are scheduled to take place during the course of 4 days with over 300 participants from both school and clubs hitting the waters. The 2018 Champions Visakha Vidyalaya and St. Joseph’s College will return to the waters in numbers to retain their respective titles for one more year.

Last year’s highest point scoring swimmer, Aniqah Ghaffoor will be missing out on account of training overseas. However, other sharks in the junior and senior pools will join in for national honors.

The National Age Groups this year will be accounted as the national trials for the Asian Age Group Championship which will take place from the 24th September to the 2nd October in Bangalore, India. The Asian Age Groups will in turn act as a qualifying event for the 18th FINA World Championship in Gwangju.

Sri Lanka’s Backstroke specialist, Akalanka Peiris will be sitting this year’s Asian Age Groups out to train for the upcoming South Asian Games and focus on booking his spot in the World Championships.
