More matches of the Singer Schools U17 Division A concluded today with St. Joseph’s, St. Anthony’s and Prince of Wales securing victories.

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo vs Ananda College, Colombo

One of the big clashes in the school cricket arena came to an end today at the St. Joseph’s College Grounds when the hosts took on Ananda College for their group stage match in the Singer Schools Division (A) group ‘E’ game. Winning the toss, the home team decided to bat first and put up a decent total of 278 runs for the loss of 8 wickets on the board. Dineth Jayakody smashed the ball to all parts to finish off with 141 runs, followed by Miranga Wickramage’s half century.

Ananda College, chasing down a big target, could only manage 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 50 overs. Sashika Umayanga scored 42 runs not out for the Anandians while Yesith Rupasinghe took 3 wickets for 21 runs and Miranga Wickramage chipped in with 2 wickets for 15 runs for the Joes.

St. Anthony’s College, Kandy vs St. Thomas College, Matale

It was an easy win for the boys from Kandy today at their home grounds when they played St. Thomas’ College Matale in the Singer Schools U17 Division (A) group ‘G’ match. The home team won the toss and chose to bat first, putting up a mammoth total of 378 runs for the loss of only 6 wickets in 50 overs. Chamindu Wickramasinghe was on fire, scoring a marvelous century. He was given a helping hand by Lasitha Barellagama, who scored 78 runs. Bandara Wijethunga took 2 wickets for 66 runs for the visitors.

The visitors St. Thomas’ College were bowled out for just 76 runs in 26.5 overs. Nimnaka Jayathilake demolished the batting line up, taking 4 wickets for 16 runs while Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Sasith Hirudika took 2 wickets each.

Tissa Central College, Kalutara vs Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa

It was a low scoring game today at Bandaragama when Tissa Central took on Prince of Wales in the Singer Schools U17 Division (A) group ‘F’ match. The visitors won the toss and invited the home team Tissa Central to bat first. They managed to bowl POW out for just 82 runs in 43.3 overs. Ashen Chaluka’s 21 runs was the highest score by a Tissa batsman while Lakshan Perera grabbed 4 wickets for 15 runs alongside Samudra Medin who took 3 wickets for 14 runs.

Tissa Central battled hard but managed to take only 6 wickets as the boys from Moratuwa reached the target in 17 overs. Vinuja Ranpul scored 30 runs while Lakshan Perera scored 29 for the visitors in their chase. Heshan Uvinda was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 8 runs.
