Antho and Rajans record first-innings victories

Dharmaraja College Kandy vs St.Anthony’s College  Wattala.

A well constructed ton by Shehan Vitharana and an all-rounded performance by Venuka Galahitiyawa paved the way forDharmaraja College, Kandy to record a well deserved first innings victory over St.Anthony’s College, Wattala.

Invited to bat first on their home ground, Rajans made a formidable total of 310 for 9 wickets. Shehan Vitharana chipped in with a hostile knock of 100 while his partner Venuka Galahitiyawa stroked a constructive 92 to bring them to a challangeable score. Pawan Prabash, Kavindu Maduka and Amila Roshitha bagged two wickets apiece.

Antonians’ 1st innings batting was confined to 242 all out as left arm spinners Ruchira Pupulewatte and Venuka Galahitiyawa curtailed their batting line up claiming 5 wickets and 4 wickets respectively. Nevertheless Asira Vageesha and Salith Fernando made half tons for their side.

Before the stumps on day two, Rajans added another 127 runs for the loss of one wicket taking themselves to a comfortable 1st innings victory.

St.Anthony’s College, Katugastota vs Revatha College, Balapitiya.

Meanwhile St.Anthony’s College, Katugastota met Revatha College, Balapitiya in their Under 19 tournament game which ended at St.Anthony’s College gounds yesterday.

Antonians dominated the proceedings on day one after winning the toss and went on to score 236. Their first innings was decorated with half tons by Kavindu Yapa and skipper Kanishka Uggalpaya. Mohommed Ishrath claimed a five wicket haul while Maduwantha De Silva picked up 4 for 47.

The first innings of Revatha College succumbed to a total of 169 all out in 36.2 overs. Chehan De Silva top scored with 55 runs while Sandaruwan Dharmarathne claimed a five wicket haul for the hosts.

The strong Antonians made another 159 for 9 for their 2nd innings and declared their batting. Sunera Jayasinghe and Diyon Stouter scored thirties allowing Chathuranga De Silva to pick up 3 break-throughs of their side.

On the way chasing a target of 226 runs, the game came to a halt when Revatha College scored 141 for 7 on stumps-day two. Maduwantha De Silva stroked 52 while Sandaruwan Dharmarathne bagged another 3 wickets taking St.Anthony’s College to their 1st innings victory.

St.Sylvester’s College Kandy vs President’s College Kotte.

St.Sylvester’s College, Kandy was unable to end the game against President’s College, Kotte in their favour, as they lost the first innings after some decisive stages of the game. The match was played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Invited to bat first, President’s College reached 183 before having the entire side back in the dressing room in 54.2 overs. The visitors underwent some anxious moments as they lost 7 wickets for just 50 runs. Credit to the tail-enders Navod Kalansooriya and Chamod Wickramasooriya who were associated in a fruitful partnership of 89 runs for the 9th wicket that enabled them to reach the total. Opening paceman Manuja Perera grabbed 3 wickets.

Impressive bowling figures of 7 for 31 by the skipper of the opposition, Malsha Jayawardhane rattled Vesters’ first innings as they were confined to 135 runs sparing all the wickets.

Playing an all-rounded captain’s knock, Malsha Jayawardhane again cracked a blistering 87 inclusive of 9 boundaries to take his side to 211 for their 2nd innings. Left arm spinner Thusith De Soyza grabbed the wicket of Malsha and two other.

In persuit of a target of 259 runs, Vesters were able to put up only 50 runs for the loss of two, on the scoreboard as the day ended owing to the deterioration of the light.

The game concluded as President’s College, Kotte claimed the first innings victory.
