The Kandy schools Trinity College and Mahamaya College took home the overall titles at the Pentathlon Swimming Championships 2013 concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium recently.
In the boys’ category Trinity College earned a total of 35 points followed by Ananda College with 25 points and St. Joseph’s College with 22 points respectively, while Mahamaya College won the girls’ category with 34 points followed by runners-up Visakha Vidyalaya with 17 points.
The Pentathlon Championships is a meet that checks the competency of swimmers across all strokes – Butteryfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle and the Individual Medley. The winners are adjudged from the total time attained by the swimmers in all the five events.
Six National Age Group records were also established in the two day event. Records were established by Akalanka Peiris – St. Peter’s College (Under 10 Boys – 100m Butterfly), K. Imesh Chathuranga – Old Senanayakians Sports Club (Under 16 Boys – 100m Butterfly), Matthew Abeysinghe – Asian International School (Under 19 Boys – 100m Freestyle) and Kimiko Raheem – Asian International School who established three records (Under 16 Girls – 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle & 200m Individual Medley).
