51st Big Match of Thurstan & Isipathana

Old Boys Union of Thurstan College has organized the annual big match on 4th & 5th April 2014 at the SSC grounds. A media conference was held yesterday in this regard at the BRC grounds in Colombo.

The Principal of Isipathana College Mr. A.C. Perera addressed the gathering “Last year the big match encounter was held with his Excellency President Mahinda Rajapakse’s presence and we work on so many things to bring back the brotherhood of both the schools.” Mr Perera further stated that big matches should not end up with school boys in hospitals and therefore it is necessary  to use a safety first stand while working on the traditional brotherhood of  the respective schools.

Like many other matches this year, the first innings will be 60 overs per team and maximum of 105 overs to be bowled in a day. Mr. Daya Bandara principal of Thurstan College stated that the big match which was supposed to happen this weekend had to be postponed  due to the elections.

The 07th annual T20 is to be played on the 27th March  and Thurstan College will host the match at their home grounds that is set to start at 2 p.m. In addition the 34th one day game will be played on the 6th April at the P. Sara Oval.

It was also mentioned that the two teams will play in the all island under 19 limited over championships quarter finals today at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

Sri Lanka Telekom will be the main sponsors for this event whilst Nestle becoming the co-sponsors.
