Founded in the year 1982, Mercantile Athletic Federation (MAF) has been serving the athletic enthusiast in the private sector of the nation for over three decades.The annual athletic competition organized by the MAF will be conducted for the 34th time this year from the 20th to 22nd October at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse stadium. A total of 330 events will be conducted at the meet across 6 age groups for both men & women and will also include the open novice and open championship events.

Men – Men’s Championship, Men’s Novices, Over 30, Over 35, Over 40, Over 45, Over 50, Over 55

Women – Women’s Championship, Women’s Novices,Over 30, Over 35, Over 40, Over 45, Over 50, Over 55

This year 53 private firms will be vying for honours at the championship with 10 new companies joining the championship this year for the first time. Organizers are expecting close to 2000 entries from the eager private sector employees, taking to the track and field representing their employer. Apart from the local workforce, 53 athletes representing the Indian Mercantile Federation will be participating, making the event a truly international event.

Sri Lanka Telecom has come forward as the main sponsor of the event and will also be focused on retaining the overall title they won last year overcoming the challenge by MAS Holdings who was  placed second. 35 championship challenge trophies apart from the overall crown will be on offer for the teams and the athletes at the competition.

MFA will also present the “Kreeda Saviya” Sports scholarship which has been a tremendous initiative supporting the upcoming athletes of the country. The scholarship program identifies a high achieving youngster in need of financial backing to pursue their athletic dreams and supports them to become national prospects.
