Four more games of the 30th Singer – MCA Super Premier League 2023 took place today, with three of them producing results and one game being abandoned due to rain.

Current table toppers Fairfirst Insurance locked horns with MODE Engineering, who were looking for their first win of the tournament at the FTZ grounds in Katunayake. MODE eEngineering batted first and got blown away for just 134 runs in 38.2 overs, thanks to 3 wicket hauls from Asel Sigera (3/12), Koshan Jayawickrama (3/30) and Thanuka Dabare (3/41). Teron Baskaran top scored for MODE with 31 runs. Fairfirst Insurance never really struggled in the chase as they reached the target in just 23.3 overs after losing 5 wickets. Anuk Fernando scored a valuable half century in the chase for Fairfirst. Theesan Vithusan and Dulaj Ashen picked up 2 wickets each for MODE Engineering. With this result, MODE Engineering has now lost all their 6 games.

CL Synergy Limited faced Hayleys Group A at the NCC grounds, with CL Synergy registering a thumping 78 run win on the back of two magnificent centuries by Sahan Arachchige, who made an unbeaten 151, and Avishka Tharindu, who scored 112. The pair put together a 231-run stand for the 4th wicket as they recovered from a shaky start, as they were 26/3 at one point. In their allotted 50 overs, CL Synergy made 308 for the loss of 5 wickets. Kavishka Anjula was the only real threat as a bowler from Hayleys Group A, as he took 4 wickets for 64 runs. In reply, Hayleys never really got going as none of their batters were able to make a big one. When rain halted play and the game got called off due to persistent rain, they were on 120 for the loss of 5 wickets after 29 overs, awarding CL Synergy with a 78-run win according to the DLS method. Skipper Sonal Dinusha was exceptional with the ball in hand for CL Synergy as he took 3 for 23.

In another game that took place today, John Keells A managed to beat BBK Partnership at the MCA Grounds. After batting first BBK Partnership could only make 191 for the loss of all their 10 wickets as Sohan de Livera was their only half centurion making 51. Young left arm spinner Dunith Wellalage took 3 for 33 for John Keells A, while upcoming pacer Eshan Malinga took 3 for 40.  Chasing 192 to win, John Keells was 138/5 in 27 overs when rain interrupted the game and was called off later, with John Keells 22 runs ahead of their DLS method target score in 27 overs after losing 5 wickets. One of the stars of the recently concluded National Super League was the highest scorer for John Keells, making 52. Isitha Wijesundara ended up with 2 wickets for 38, but it was not enough to turn the result in BBK Partnership’s favor.

The fourth and final game of the day which was scheduled between HNB A and CDB A at the Sri Lanka Army Grounds in Dombagoda, got called off before a result was possible, as the two teams shared points. HNB A batted first and made 216 in their 50 overs, with Asitha Wanninayake top scoring with a fighting 60 on a hard surface for batters. For CDB A, Muditha Lakshan and Lakshan Sandakan took 2 wickets each. When the game got called off, CDB A were in a spot of bother with a score of 40 for the loss of 3 wickets in 8 overs.
