May 29, Bangkok – Day three of the 26th Asian Athletics Championships 2025 proved to be a fruitful outing for Sri Lanka, as the women’s 4×400m relay team secured a bronze medal. Several other athletes recorded commendable performances too.

It was Bronze Glory for the Women’s 4×400m Relay Team; the highlight of the day came from the women’s 4×400m relay event, where the Sri Lankan quartet of Nadeesha Ramanayake, Sayuri Mendis, Jayeshi Uththara, and Nishendra Fernando delivered a powerful performance to claim the bronze medal. Finishing with a time of 3 minutes 36.67 seconds, the team trailed behind India and Vietnam, who took gold and silver respectively. This marks another medal for the nation, adding to its growing presence on the continental athletics stage.

Further, the National Record was Broken in Women’s 10,000m earlier in the morning session. It was Rasara Wijesooriya who made headlines despite finishing seventh in the women’s 10,000-meter final. Clocking in at 33 minutes 21.62 seconds, she broke the previous Sri Lankan national record of 33:39.60 by nearly 18 seconds, which is an incredible margin for an athlete. Even though Wijesooriya’s performance did not result in a podium finish, it marked a significant personal and national achievement in long-distance running.

Sri Lanka’s Lesandu Arthawidu competed in the men’s high jump final on this day too, where he managed to clear a height of 2.10 meters, securing an eighth-place finish. While not his strongest showing compared to past performances, Arthavidu’s qualification and participation in the final reflect his consistent presence among Asia’s elite jumpers.

Moreover, there were Mixed Results for Men’s 4×400m Relay Team. The Sri Lankan men’s 4×400m relay outfit had a promising start during the preliminary rounds, qualifying for the final with a time of 3:07.66 minutes. The team in the heats consisted of Aruna Darshana, Sadev Rajakaruna, Omel Shashintha, and Kalhara Indupa.

However, a change in the final lineup—Kalinga Kumarage replacing Omel—resulted in a slightly slower finish. The team clocked 3:08.55 minutes and finished fifth, just on the outside of medal contention.
