Athletic championship of the Sri Lanka Army Para Games will be held from the 12th to the 14th October 2016 at the Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium in Diyagama.

Para Sports was initially introduced to the Sri Lanka Army in the year 1991 with the main motive to reinforce the process of rehabilitation of officers and men injured in the battlefield. Over the years Para Sports have gone from strength to strength at Sri Lanka Army with 8 out of 9 competitors at the 2016 Rio Paralympic games emerging from Sri Lanka Army.

SL Army also prides itself as the entity which nurtured the athletes Pradeep Sanjaya who won Bronze in 400m T46 at London Olympics and also Dinesh Herath who won Bronze in javelin throw F46 final at the 2016 Rio Games.

The Annual Para Games of the Army has been the launchpad and catalyst in promoting the athletes to international glory. This year the Army Para Games commenced in April 2016 with over 1000 athletes taking part in 12 respective disciplines. Athletic championships will be grand finale with the closing ceremony of the event recognizing the victors of various disciplines.
