Young Athletes to be presented with certificates of achievement at the Junior Tarbet

Sri Lanka Schools athletic Association has made arrangements for all the junior athletes who achieve qualification standards at Phase 01 of the Sir John Tarbet Junior athletic meet to be presented with a certificate of achievement that will come in handy in whatever stream of sport that the youngsters decide to take part in the future.

Addressing the media at a function held to endorse Ritzbury brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) who have come forward to support the senior and the junior Tarbet meet for the 6th consecutive year, the secretary of the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association(SLSAA) Mr. Wedagedara  added that,  

“This year we have been advised to hold the Junior Tarbet meet in two phases and the phase 01 will be worked out with selection competitions happening in three venues. 01st selection trial was held on the 16th and the 17th of June at Royal college grounds Polonaruwa where 1700 athletes from Nothern,  Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces took part. From 30th to 01st July athletes from Southern and Western province will take the field and the final round of the first phase will be held at the Jayathilaka Grounds Nawalapitiya where athletes from Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central province will compete. After the initial phase we will select 63 athletes per event with 10 athletes each from the qualifying rounds and the rest of the 33 added according to the qualification they achieve”

Adding on the initiative of presenting a certificate of achievement to the young athletes achieve the qualification standards set by the SLSAA , Mr. Wedagedara added that “We have made arrangements to present these athletes with a certificate of achievement ,  we believe that this will be a very valuable accreditation for the youngsters as it will come in handy in the future even if they want to move to another sport as they will hold a valid and an accredited document from the SLSAA on their achievement.”

The Junior edition of The Sir John Tarbet Athletic meet will include Under 12,13,14 and 15 age groups and the finals will be held at the Bogambara stadium Kandy, while the much looked forward to Senior edition which will include Under 16, 18 and 20 age groups and will be held from the 4th to 6th July at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse stadium.

Marketing Manager of  CBL Foods International (Pvt) Ltd, Mr Nilupul De Silva expressed his delight in being part of the event adding that “ Ritzbury takes pride in spurring on our budding young athlets. We have been sponsoring  the nation’s most long standing school athletic championship that has done much to encourage, inspire and motivate young school athletes to gain superior performance”
