The final of the four Singer U19 two-day quarter-finals started today and ended today with Prince of Wales College destroying Ananda College hopes as the lads from Moratuwa book their place in the Singer U19 semi-finals.

Trinity enter semi-final; Nalanda bids adieu

Trinity College dismissed Nalanda College from the Singer..

The Ananda College captain Asel Sigera opted to bat after winning the toss as they struggled to get a start and were dismantled by the Moratuwa brigade for a hapless 96 all out in 29 overs.

Skipper Savindu Peiris (3/15), vice-captain Avindu Fernando (2/13) and left-arm spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara (2/23) hit their line and lengths and proved too good for the Ananda batters as they restricted them to a paltry 96 all out giving Prince of Wales an opportunity of entering the school’s semifinals.

Sri Lanka Test captain Dinesh Chandimal’s younger brother Kamesh Nirmal (27) and Lahiru Hiranya (23) got starts but failed to make an impact for the boys from Ananda Mawatha.

Prince of Wales openers came out all guns blazing as they reached 97 in 15 overs with all 10 wickets intact. Left-hander Vishva Chathuranga and Sandun Fernando took the game away from the Anandians with dashing left-hander Vishva Chathuranga hammering the bowlers to all-parts of the grounds as he stroked 133 off 141 balls that included 17 boundaries and 3 maximums.

The umpires and the two captains decided to end the game as Ananda College has no chance to come back and win the game outright in the second day.

Prince of Wales will meet Trinity College in the Semi-final and St. Joseph’s College will play Mahanama College in the first semi-final on the 27th & 28th at St. Sebastian’s grounds, Moratuwa.
