Wheelchair Tennis player and the Lankan top seed Upali Rajakaruna gained qualification for the 2016 Rio Paralympics via wild card and will be the only wheelchair tennis representation from the country for the games.

The war-veteran who took up the sport of wheelchair tennis will be representing the country in his third Olympic games followed by the games of 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London. Currently ranked 102 in the world, Upali Rajakaruna is headed to Rio de Janeiro for the Paralympics that is scheduled to take place from the 7th to the 18th September 2016.

Currently in the island after a successful stint in Japan and South Korea in the ITF Wheelchair World Cup, Upali is set to leave for Belgium to participate in the ITF Worlds Series tournament in August before departing to Brazil.
