Three matches of the Singer U19 Division I tournament came to an end today, with two matches ending in draws and St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa crushing St. Mary’s College Kegalle in the other game.

The Group ‘C’ encounter played at the Welagedara Stadium in Kurunegala was continued for the 2nd day with hosts St. Mary’s College following-on after being bowled out for a mere 61 in reply to the 222 runs made by St. Sebastian’s College.

The Marians started the day with a deficit of 160 runs behind the Sebastianites with all 10 wickets in hand. The home team showed some resurgence in the 2nd innings as their skipper Gajitha Kotuwegoda led their fight back with 41 runs.

However, the spinners of St. Sebastian’s College made certain not to allow the opposition to reprieve them a victory, by an innings. Spinners Nadeera Fernando, Vinuja Ranasinghe and captain Nuwanidu Fernando shared 9 wickets among them to help the visitors register a convincing victory by an innings and 4 runs.

Trinity College, Kandy vs St. Peter’s College, Colombo

The traditional game played at the iconic Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy saw the hosts registering a first innings win as they outplayed the in-form Peterites. Resuming from the overnight score of 62/6 in reply to the 211 runs made by Trinity College, the Peterites were bowled out for 128 runs in their first innings.

Right-arm off spinners Abhishek Anandakumar and Kavishka Senadeera took 5 and 4 wickets respectively, taking major responsibility in wrecking the strong Peterite batting line-up. With a lead of 83 runs, the home team scored a slow 120 runs for their 2nd innings in 42 overs. Ashen Lokuketiya anchored the innings for Trinity College with an unbeaten 61 as they set a target of 204 runs for the Peterites.

Kavishka Senadeera, once again with a successful stint with the ball, took 3 wickets out of the 6 Peterite wickets which fell in the 25 overs they batted in the final session, scoring 74 runs.

D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo vs Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda

Hosts D.S. Senanayake College were beaten on the 1st innings by Dharmasoka College at the Maththegoda Grounds. Dharmasoka lost their last 5 wickets for 53 runs after having gained the lead on the 1st day itself. Dharmasoka College were on 111/5 in reply to D.S’ first innings score of 71.

Kavindu Nadeeshan completed his half-century early in the day as Sri Lanka U19 cap all-rounder, Muditha Lakshan grabbed 4 wickets to restrict Dharmasoka’s 1st innings to 164 runs. Trailing by 93 runs, D.S. Senanayake put on an impressive batting show as they declared their 2nd innings after scoring 261 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 51 overs.

Muditha Lakshan once again starred for D.S as he scored 62 runs while Amitha Dabare assisted him with a valuable 53. This effort helped the hosts gain a lead of 168. In the bowling line for Dharmasoka, Lohan De Zoysa picked up 4 wickets for the 2nd time in the match while Dinuka Dilshan also contributed with 3 wickets.

Chasing a target of 169, Dharmasoka were on 58/2 when play came to an end. Dharmasoka gained points for their first innings win, taking major honours in this Group ‘B’ encounter.
