Four games of Singer U19 Division One tournament ended today, 22nd of January, while several other games hit the roads around the island.
Richmond College, Galle vs Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya
The Galle school won the toss and elected to bat first at Pannipitiya. The Richmondites batted out 71.1 overs and made 272 runs in their first-innings. The tall right-hander, Adithya Siriwardhena too-scored for Richmond College with 61 runs. Chamindu Samarasinghe engaged himself in a lone battle against the collective efforts of the Richmond pack. Chamindu picked up 4 wickets for the hosts.
It was a smooth sail for Dharmapala early on when they came out to bat. But, then came Dilum Sudeera. The left-armer troubled the home team on regular intervals as he ended the innings with 6 scalps under his belt.
Pannipitiya boys ended the innings at 205 runs with Vihanga Gunarathne (37) making the most for Dharmapala College.
The visitors decided to go on a leisure outing as they walked out in the second-innings to get some batting practice. Adithya Siriwardhena hit his second fifty of the match while Sandun Mendis milked 66 runs.

Last year’s skipper Thisuraka Akmeemana held the innings together for Wesley as they made a mammoth 333 runs in their first innings. Thisuraka slammed 104 runs opening the innings for the Wesleyites.
In their home grounds, Thurstan College were sloppy with the bat as they managed only 153 runs after being taken to the cleaners early-on. Yohan Liyanage scored 66 runs for Thurstan College while the fresher, Thenuka Perera picked up a fifer for visitors.
The hosts made a quick reply as they put up a better response in their follow-on. They made 174 runs for the loss of 3 wickets and ended the game in a draw. Reliable Jayavihan Mahavithana stood up for the team with 72 runs to his name while the skipper Sandaru Dias and opener Yohan Liyanage scored 31 runs each.

The traditional encounter was worked off at Ananda College grounds at Maradana. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, only to be folded up for 136 runs. Daminda Reshan fought alone as he made an unbeaten 56 runs. Maheesh Theekahana bagged a four-fer for St. Benedict’s College.
In reply, St. Benedict’s College made 207 runs in 59.1 overs. Kaveesha Jayathilaka was the top-scorer for St. Benedict’s College with 52 runs while Saviru Bandara was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 36.

Following-on, Ananda skipper, Kamesh Nirmal put his hands up and delivered to his school with a match-saving 101 runs in the second-innings. Kalana Wijesiri and Moditha Ranathunga both supported him with half centuries. Ananda managed to draw the game with 276 runs for 6 wickets in the second-innings.

Collective efforts from the boys from Matara elevated them to a humongous 360 runs after deciding to bat first at Wattala. Harindu Jayasekara (76), Woshitha Apsara (58) and Gisanthaka Jayaweera all fared with half-centuries while Kaveesha Dulanjana spun his way a five-fer.
The national coloursman from St. Anthony’s College, Avishka Tharindu, lead from the front in the Antonian fight back. He made a rock-solid 101 and remained unbeaten as the game ended in a tamed-draw.

The Moratuwa boys went all the way up to the hills to play the Trinitians on their traditions game. Opting to bat first, Trinity College scored 163 runs in their first-innings. Skipper Pubudu Bandara topped the batting chart with 53 runs. Vinuja Ranasinghe picked up 4 wickets for 48 runs.
The visitors were cruising comfortably at 128 runs for 4 wickets at the close of play. Dunith Jayathunga is at the crease with 74 runs to his name. The game will resume tomorrow for day-two.
