Trinitian Boyagoda ends Ananda’s limited overs journey

Sri Lanka U19 World record holder Hasitha Boyagoda and his partner Thisaru Dilshan knocked Ananda College…

Thurstan skipper won the toss and opted to bat first on a decent surface at Thurstan grounds. The hosts lost 4 quick wickets but solid knocks from left-hander Imesh Viranga (89) and Pansilu Deshan (63*) guided them to a competitive 238 for 8 in their 50 overs.

Both Viranga and Deshan put on 91 runs for the 5th wicket as Viranga scored his 89 off 120 deliveries that included 10 boundaries. Deshan stroked an unbeaten 63 off 74 balls that included only 3 boundaries. Right-arm seamer Johanne De Zilva was the pick of the bowlers for the Josephians claiming 4 for 41 in 8 overs, while skipper Jehan Daniel chipped in with 2 wickets.

Chasing 239 to book a place in the quarters finals, the visitors started off scoring 5.5 runs per over in the first 15 overs. Senior batsman Revan Kelly went back to the pavilion with an injury but came back after they lost the 3rd wicket of Yesith Rupasinghe for 24 runs. Sri Lanka youth vice-captain and Josephian leader Jehan Daniel departed for 17 as the target looked impossible with 93 for 4.

However, the visitors needed 140 in the final 30 overs with Revan Kelly and big-match savior Dineth Jayakody at the crease.
