The Aquatic Sports Championships continues with heightening rivalry

The highlight of the second day was the competition each school put to topping the chart. This adds more heat to the table than anything else. The tents representing each school were on fire as their school mates were closing up to the finishing lines.

 

However at the end of the second day Mahamaya College Kandy with 318.50 points in the girls’ category and St. Joseph’s College with 353 points from boys’ category took the lead. Following Mahamaya College were Visaka Vidyalaya, Ladies College and Musaeus College but the points gap between first and second places was over 100. The same shape was visible in the boys’ score table. Royal College at number two were led by St, Josephs by a massive point margin. Trailing Royal College were Ananda College and Trinity College Kandy.

Summing up the performances which resulted the afore mentioned scores, the first event of the day itself was lit up by Hiruni De Zoysa from Gateway college with a new record – Girls’ Under 15 100m Butterfly Stroke. After these the winners were centralized towards the winning schools in the competition.  Royal College, Musaeus College and Mahamaya College Kandy were the respective winners. As the championships poured into certain schools some schools it was apparent some were not  satisfied with their performances. Lot of team mates from each school were spotted trying to build the confidence of each other as the games took place.

The total number of new records within the second day was 8. K. Imaesh Chaturanga, Shehan Kaushalaya, Kiniko Raheem, Machiko Raheem, Ishani Erandika Senanayake, Kanitha Munasinghe, Harini De Soyza and Shehan De silva were the outstanding record holder of the events. On the same note Harini De Soyza’s special performance surpassed the rest with her having records in two events: Girl’s Under15 200m Individual Medley and Girls’ Under 15 100m Butterfly Stroke. It was notable that these performances were distributed among: Asian International School, Srimavo Bandaranayake Balika Vidyala, Gateway College and finally D.S. Senanayake College.

The events of the senior category ranging from 67-96 took place on the second day. An early wrap up on the day was also notable due to the efficiency in all the participants. The sponsors ‘Milo beverages’ had provided the resources to maintain the discipline within the competition. This year some of the key advancements were seen in the scoring end, letting the officials update online systems and keep a track of individual performances of all athletes.
