Table Tennis championship to Isipathana College Colombo and Union College Jaffna

The all-island unranked Table Tennis Championship was worked off in Central College Jaffna on the 21st and 22nd December 2013

The event a part of the Asian German Sport Exchange Programme was sponsored by Abans Ltd and Serendib Medicals.  The tournament saw a large participation over the two days with high competition among all categories. The chief guest Principal of Central College Jaffna Mr S.K Elilventhan, gracing event elaborated, the importance of taking Table Tennis sport outstation. 

Moving onto the awards the most standing player was picked from Jaffna. S.Sinthuya  of Union College Jaffna won the under 18/21 and Open Women’s singles event and the Most outstanding Player of the tournament. She went on to receive the P.N.Pestonjee challenge Trophy donated by Abans Pvt. Ltd. 

In the men’s final, it was battle between Tharindu Keshan Perera and Mohan Agashan. Tharindu brought the men’s championship back to Colombo beating Mohan in Under 21 and the men’s open round.

Considering the youngest age category, Jeyaeni Umashankar of Jaffna Hindu Primary owned the championship in the Under 08 division beating Tharani Kavindya (Sussex College Bandarawela) within two rounds – 11/07 and 11/03. In Under 10 Girls Singles  N. Imalsha Lakrandi (Buddhist Girls’ College, Mt.Lavinia)  beat  Oshadi Umayangana (Buddhist Girls’ College , Mt.Lavinia)  within three rounds wrapping up the finals. 

The boys rounds were relatively competitive with all games pushing on to more than three rounds in each. Nenuka  Chaniru Yassawi Liyanage and W.M. Malitha Bandara at the youngest age was taking on a competitive two rounds a and a final. Nenuka was awarded the champion of under 8 division after all. 

Under 10, 12 and 15s boy’s champions were Kavishka Piumal Bandara (Gampola Table Tannis Academy) Nandan Dineth Buwaneke Aluthge (Gampola Table Tannis Academy)and Thimothy Shehan (St Anthony’s College, Kandy)  respectively. Under 12 and Under 15 Girls Singles champions were shared among Sayuri Pavanika (Sussex College Bandarawela ) and  Ayodya Sandeepani from St.Anthony’s Girls’College,Kandy
