Here’s a brief round-up of the matches which concluded in the U19 Division Cricket Tournament today.

Wesley College vs St. Anthony’s College

The Anthonians beat Wesley College by an innings and 13 runs at Wesley College grounds today. The visitors won the toss and elected to field first. They managed only 140 runs in their first innings. Nimmaka Jayathilake picked up 4 for 42 for the boys from Kandy.

In reply, St. Anthony’s posted 265 for their first innings. Half centuries from Navodya Wijekumara, Kalahara Senerathna and Theeksha Gunasinghe helped them take a first innings lead of 125 runs. Sakuntha Liyanage picked up 4 for 30 for the home side.

Wesley had to bat out the remaining overs but they failed once again. They were bundled out for just 112 runs with Nimnaka Jayathilaka rattling through the batting line up and taking 9 for 48 to go with his 4-for in the first innings.

Royal College vs Mahinda College

An all-round performance by Mahinda College earned them a first innings victory over Royal College in their traditional encounter in Colombo. Mahinda College won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to post 258 for 8 before they decided to declare their innings. Pramith Thewarapperuma top scored with an unbeaten 64 while Kavindu Ediriweera scored 54 runs. For the hosts, Lahiru Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 41.

In reply, the Royalists couldn’t get any big partnerships in the top order. Pasindu Sooriyabandara after disappointing season last year, has found some good form early this season. He scored 90 runs at the top to lay the foundation for the Royalists but the rest did not add much. They were bowled out for 209 runs. Kavidu Ediriweera and Pasan Pethangoda bagged 3 wickets each for the boys from down south.

Mahinda College came on to bat for their second innings and continued to dominate proceedings with the bat. At stumps on day 2, they were 247 for 5 with Vinura Dulsara unbeaten on 104 runs.

Zahira College vs St. Servatius College, Matara

St. Servatius registered a comfortable 1st innings victory against Zahira College at Maradana today. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to post 293 runs for their first innings. Mohommad Shamas top scored with 611 while Yasith Nirmala and Rithmika Nimesh chipped in valuable cameos. Supun Kavinda was the pick of the bowlers for St. Servatius College as he picked up his first 5 wicket haul for the season.

In reply, St. Servatius put together a massive first innings total of 474 runs in 113.4 overs. Risira Lakwin top scored with 106 runs while Pushpitha Dilshan, Kesara Nuwantha and Sandaru Nethmina scored half centuries.

St. Joseph Vaz College vs Dharmaraja College

St. Joseph Vaz College registered a massive victory by an innings and 96 runs against Dharmaraja College today in Kandy. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first. A brilliant knock of 122 by Thilan Pradeeptha guided the visitors to 300 for 9 in their first innings. Yasintha Samararathna picked up 3 wickets for the Rajans.

In reply, Dharmaraja was never a match for the quality of the St. Joseph Vaz College bowlers. They were bundled out for just 80 runs in their first innings thanks to a 6-for by Dhananjaya Perera. With a deficit of 220 runs against them, the hosts were asked to follow on. They were once again outplayed by the visitors as they were cleaned up for 124 runs. Dhanajaya missed out on his ten-wicket haul in the game as he ended up with 9 for 59.

Maris Stella College vs St.  Peter’s College

Peterites were stunned by Maris Stella College who registered a 60-run victory at Kadirana grounds. 2nd day’s play resumed with Maris Stella 16 for no loss in their second innings. They added 130 runs more and made a positive declaration at lunch on day 2. Cathura Anuradha top scored with 48 runs. For the Peterites, Miflal Ameen picked up 4 wickets in the 2nd innings to complete his 1st ten wicket haul this season.

Peterites were given a target of 227 runs to get. The top order started off well but the wickets kept on falling and they were ultimately bowled out for just 185 runs which gave Maris Stella a thrilling 41 run victory. Ravindu Fernando picked up a 5-for while Pasidu Madawa took 4 wickets for Maris Stella.

S. Thomas’ College vs Dharmapala College

Thomians registered a massive victory by an innings and 56 runs against Dharmapala College at Mt Lavinia. Visitors resumed play with 91 for 7 on board in their 1st innings. They only added 22 runs more in the morning as the remaining 3 wickets fell in quick succession. Kalana Perera picked up 5 for 39. With a deficit of 146 runs in favour of the hosts, Dharmapala were asked to follow on. They managed to get only 90 runs for their second innings which gave the Thomians the victory by an innings and 56 runs. Dellon Peiris picked up 6 wickets in the second innings to go with his hattrick in the first innings.Early on, S. Thomas’ posted 261 for 8 in their first innings with Kalana Perera’s blistering 73.
