The dominant India Hockey team handed the Sri Lankan stickers a ticket home, knocking them out of the Asian Games 2018 Men’s Field Hockey event.

India currently ranked 5th in the world, advanced through to the semifinals unbeaten in the preliminary rounds. Sri Lanka faces a sad exit in the Asian Games with 2 wins and 3 losses, however, commendable performances were rendered for their nation during their stint.

Sri Lanka got off to a shaky start losing both their opening games to Japan and Korea. Japan scored 11 goals against Sri Lanka while Korea scored 8 goals to beat the lions comprehensively. Sri Lanka came back strongly in the next two games against Hong Kong and Indonesia when they equalized their win-loss ratio in the pool.

Going into the final preliminary match, the much fancied India team was favored to win. Likely, India managed 20 goals against Sri Lanka; the second highest total they’ve comped in this years’ games. The Sri Lankan defense was not good enough against the experienced campaigners and was unable to break momentum all throughout the match.
