Bangladesh takes lead despite Sonal Dinusha’s century

Bangladesh U19 ended day 3 with a 39-run lead, having lost just 1 wicket for 18 runs in their 2nd innings. Sri Lanka U19 was all-out for 288 runs in their 1st innings in reply to their opponents 309-run 1st innings total.

Resuming on 65/1 with opener Navod Paranavithana (35*) and skipper Nipun Dananjaya (5*) unbeaten at the crease the first wicket of the day fell adding just 10 runs. Within a few overs, early on in the day, both the overnight batsmen were dismissed for 40 and 11 respectively.

Sri Lanka U19s start well after Bangladesh compile 309

Then the best partnership of the Sri Lankan inning took place. The right-hand left-hand combination of Mohammad Shamaz and Sonal Dinusha, added 90 valuable runs for the 4th wicket.

After Shamaz’s dismissal for 31 when the team total was 168, of the Sri Lankan batting line-up didn’t really support Sonal as he battled alone to take Sri Lanka to a respectable total.

Sonal Dinusha facing 202 balls scored a magnificent century as he fell as Sri Lanka’s 8th wicket with the score on 270. The left-hander played a wonderful anchoring role to hold the whole Sri Lankan inning together. Ashien Daniel batting at 9 also chipped in with 21 runs. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 288 runs in 113 overs.

Bangladesh takes honours on opening day

In bowling for the visitors, captain Tawhid Hridoy and the left-arm spinner, the duo who did the bulk of Bangladeshi bowling, picked up 3 wickets apiece while the opening seamer duo of Shoriful Islam and Shamim Aslam contributed with 2 wickets each.

With a 21-run 1st inning lead Bangladesh lost their opening batsman Hassan Tamim for 6 runs in the second over of the inning off Ashien Daniel. Tomorrow will be the final day of this Youth Test.
