Rugby greats to be honoured at Asia Sevens

Sri Lanka Rugby will have a special ceremony at the Asia Sevens Series 3rd leg that will kick off tomorrow (14th) to honour the rugby personalities who have provided a yeomen service to the sport as well as the governing body.

The initiative that was brought in by Sri Lanka Rugby will take place during the awards ceremony of the Asia Sevens Series that will happen on the 15th of October 2017 after the cup finals.

The persons who have been shortlisted by the national body have been greats in the sport whose contribution to the sport over the past few decades have been noteworthy. The list includes over 30 personalities.

The list of recognized individuals include Chandrishan Perera, Governor of the Central Bank Indrajith Coomaraswamy, Hemaka Amarasuriya, Malik Samarawickrema, Summa Navaratne, Y. C. Chang, Gamini Fernando, Brg. Japana Jayawardena, Michael Jayasekara, Saman Jayasinghe, Jagath Fernando, Mohan Balasuriya, Ajith Abeyratne, Jeff Ratnam, Hisham Abdeen, Ibrahim Hamid, Kumar Gunawardena, Frank Hubart, Dr. Hans Wijesuriya and Ken Murray.

The prime intention of this initiative is to recognize the service that these gentlemen provided over the past few decades in keeping the sport alive as well as contributing to its development. The presentation ceremony will take place prior to the Asia Sevens Series awards.
