Sri Lanka preliminary squad named for Nidahas Trophy

The Sri Lanka Cricket national selectors have named a 20-man preliminary squad for the upcoming Nidahas Trophy which is set to commence on 6th March.

Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal will once again lead the Sri Lanka T20I team as regular limited-overs skipper Angelo Mathews was not considered for selection as he is yet to recover from the injury which he suffered during the concluded Tri-Nation Series in Bangladesh.

Under Chandimal, Sri Lanka swept all three trophies in Bangladesh recently winning the tri-nation ODI tournament, Test series and T20 series.

Nuwan Pradeep, Kusal Janith Perera and Dushmantha Chameera have successfully recovered from their injuries and proved their fitness by playing in the SLC Major T20 Tournament. All three players have been named in the 20-man squad while veteran seamer Lasith Malinga who took 8 wickets in 3 domestic T20 games has been left-out again.

As expected, young fast-bowler Shehan Madushanka (Hamstring strain) and Asela Gunaratne (Rotator Cuff strain) have not been named in the 20-man squad.

The Nidahas Trophy begins when Sri Lanka taking on India at R. Premadasa Stadium. Bangladesh is the third team to take part in the tri-nation T20 tournament.
