Mobitel tops day thirteen

Three matches of the Mercantile Services Basketball Tournament were played in and around Colombo yesterday. Here`s a look at what happened.

Ceylon Tobacco v Citizens Development Business

The E division encounter was played as the first match for the day at the Hendry Pedris Stadium. Ceylon Tobacco trailed the game by eighteen points going into half time. The scoreboard read 32-14.

Chiranga Malwatta, doing most of the scoring for Ceylon Tobacco, top scored in the game with twenty-three points. Nishan Fernando added another nineteen points. Lahiru Randika scored nineteen points while Dashika Wijesinghe scored seventeen for Citizens Development Business.

Citizens Development Business added twenty-eight points during the second half of the game in reply to the twenty-nine points scored by Ceylon Tobacco. With the early lead being in favor of Citizen`s Development Business, they won the game with the full-time scoreboard reading 60-43.


WNS Global v Copal Amba

The second match for the day in the E division category was also played at the Hendry Pedris Stadium. WNS Global led the game comfortably maintaining a twenty point gap at half-time as the scorecard read 34-14.

Nipuna Samarakoon top scored in the game with fifteen points as Wishawage contributed with a dozen for WNS Global. Peiris scored ten points for Copal Amba and he was assisted by Moais with six points.

WNS Global, continuing the dominance, added another twenty points in the 2nd half while Copal Amba only managed thirteen. The final scorecard read 54-27 in favour of WNS Global.


Airport & Aviation v Mobitel

The E division game was played as the final game for the day at Otters Aquatic Club. Mobitel, the in-form team of the tournament, led the game by ten points going into half time, as the scoreboard read 34-24.

Koshan Jayawickrama top scored in the game with thirty-six points for Mobitel, almost 50% of their total score. He was well supported by Thilina De Silva with another nineteen points. For Airport & Aviation, Silva with twenty points and De Silva with twelve points did most of the scoring.

Mobitel added another forty-four points in the second half of the game while Airport & Aviation only managed to score twenty-eight points. Mobitel won the game with a margin of twenty-three points as the final scores read 75-52.
