Sports Ministry provides cricket gear

The distribution ceremony of cricket gear to 11 cricket playing schools in the Colombo Zonal division was held on Monday (28) at the Sports Ministry premises, with the participation of Faiszer Musthapha, the Minister of Sports.

The schools to receive cricket gear included Hindu Maha Vidyalaya, Hameed Al Husseinie -Colombo 12, Mahabodi Vidyalaya, St. Joseph’s College- Colombo 14, Al Hikma College- Colombo 12, Al Nasher Vidyalaya, Darussalam Maha Vidyalaya, Kotahena MMV, St. Matthew’s-Dematagoda, Lumbini Vidyalaya and Dudley Senanayake Vidyalaya.

“A lot of kids these days are easily distracted by electrical devices such as mobile phones, laptops etc.  It is very important that we minimize such use and get them involved in sports which will also make them healthy people.” said the Sports Minister at the distribution ceremony.

The cricket gear provided included all essential equipment such as cricket bats, batting pads, batting gloves, cricket balls, wicket keeping equipment and other protective equipment.

School cricket masters /mistresses in charge and junior cricketers were present at the occasion while other important members of the Colombo Zonal Educational Department also attended the distribution ceremony.

The honorable Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapa did not forget to comment on the present fixing allegations which have hit the country. “The most important thing in sports is to be truthful to yourself. There have been a few corruption allegations that have come up recently and I will assure you that the accused will be punished severely.”
