With the end of a historic event comes a historic reward; For the first time in the history of Sri Lanka, Rs. 85 million was gifted among all Bronze, Silver and Gold medalists at the South Asian Games 2019, held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

With 40 Gold, 83 Silver and 128 Bronze medals, Team Sri Lanka created history by bagging 251 medals in total, the nation’s best performance in the history of the Games. These 251 men and women were duly celebrated with a handsome compensation for their duty to mother Lanka.

Honorable Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Dullas Alahapperuma and high authority figures from the Sports Ministry, Department of Sports Development and the National Olympic Committee graced the occasion to commemorate the 251 athletes and their coaches.

128 Bronze medalists took home Rs. 200,000 each, whilst 83 Silver medalists with Rs. 300,000 each and the Gold Medalists took home a whopping Rs. 500,000 each.

Sri Lanka’s golden girl in the new era, Dilshi Kumarasinghe took home a well-deserved Rs. 1.5 million for her 3 Gold medals in the 400m, 800m and the 4x400m. Nilani Rathnayake and Aruna Darshana who ended up with 2 Gold medals each netted a sum of 1 Million.
